Minecraft is a sandbox video game formerly created by Swedish game creator Markus "Notch" Persson, and later developed and printed by Mojang. The creative and building aspects of Minecraft allow players to build constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally generated world. Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that does not have any specific goals for the gamer to perform, allowing players a great amount of liberty in choosing how to try out the gameHowever, there is an achievements system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the option to experiment with in third person mode. The core gameplay revolves around breaking and placing blocks. The overall game world comprises rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a set grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move around the world freely, objects can only be placed at preset locations on the grid. Throughout the course of the game, players encounter various non-player individuals known as mobs, including pets, villagers and hostile creatures. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for crafting and food materials, and spawn in the daytime. In comparison, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique animals have been observed by reviewers, such as the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks up on the participant; and the Enderman, a creature with the ability to teleport and pick up blocks.
