Minecraft is a sandbox video game actually created by Swedish game designer Markus "Notch" Persson, and developed and shared by Mojang later. The creative and building aspects of Minecraft allow players to create constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally generated world. Other activities in the overall game include exploration, tool gathering, crafting, and battle. Multiple gameplay methods are available, including survival mode where in fact the player must acquire resources to build the global world and maintain health, a creative method where players have unlimited resources to construct with and the capability to fly, an excitement setting where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator setting where players can journey around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or damage any. The Personal computer version of the overall game is noted because of its modding scene, where a dedicated community creates new gameplay technicians, items, and investments for the game.Minecraft received praise from critics upon release, and received numerous accolades and honors. As of 2016 June, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with more than 40 million unique players each full month, rendering it the best-selling PC game currently and the next best-selling video game of most right time, only behind the various releases of Tetris. In September 2014, Microsoft released a deal to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition being completed two months later.

Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that has no specific goals for the gamer to perform, allowing players a great amount of liberty in choosing how to experience the gameHowever, there is an accomplishment system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the option to try out in third person function. The core gameplay revolves around breaking and positioning blocks. The overall game world is composed of rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a set grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move across the world freely, objects can only be positioned at permanent locations on the grid. Players can gather these material blocks and place them anywhere else, thus enabling various constructions. In the beginning of the game, the player is located on the surface of a procedurally produced and almost infinite game world. The global world is divided into biomes ranging from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk over the terrain consisting of plains, mountains, forests, caves, and various water bodies. The in-game time system comes after a complete day and night routine, with one full cycle prolonged 20 real-time minutes. Through the entire course of the overall game, players come across various non-player heroes known as mobs, including animals, villagers and hostile creatures. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for food and crafting materials, and spawn in the daytime. By contrast, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique animals have been observed by reviewers, such as the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks up on the participant; and the Enderman, a creature having the ability to teleport and grab blocks.
