Minecraft is a sandbox gaming originally created by Swedish game creator Markus "Notch" Persson, and later developed and posted by Mojang. The creative and building areas of Minecraft permit players to build constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally produced world. In September 2014, Microsoft released a deal to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition later being completed two months.

Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that has no specific goals for the participant to perform, allowing players plenty of liberty in choosing how to learn the gameHowever, there is an accomplishment system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the choice to experiment with in third person method. The core gameplay revolves around putting and breaking blocks. The overall game world is composed of rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a fixed grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move freely across the world, objects can only be placed at fixed locations on the grid. Players can collect these material place and blocks them in other places, allowing for various constructions thus.In the beginning of the game, the participant is located on the surface of the procedurally generated and virtually infinite game world. The world is divided into biomes which range from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk across the terrain comprising plains, mountains, forests, caves, and various water bodies. The in-game time system employs a full day and night routine, with one full pattern sustained 20 real-time minutes. Through the entire course of the overall game, players face various non-player characters known as mobs, including family pets, villagers and hostile animals. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for food and crafting materials, and spawn in the day time. By contrast, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique creatures have been mentioned by reviewers, such as the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks up on the player; and the Enderman, a creature having the ability to teleport and pick up blocks.
