Minecraft is a sandbox video game formerly created by Swedish game developer Markus "Notch" Persson, and developed and released by Mojang later. The creative and building areas of Minecraft permit players to generate constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally generated world. Other activities in the game include exploration, resource gathering, crafting, and battle. Multiple gameplay modes are available, including survival mode where the player must acquire resources to construct the global world and keep maintaining health, a creative setting where players have unlimited resources to construct with and the capability to fly, an excursion setting where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator setting where players can take flight around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or eliminate any. The Laptop or computer version of the game is noted for its modding scene, where a dedicated community creates new gameplay technicians, items, and belongings for the overall game.Minecraft received praise from critics after release, and won numerous honours and accolades. As of June 2016, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with an increase of than 40 million unique players each month, rendering it the best-selling PC game to date and the next best-selling gaming of most right time, only behind the various releases of Tetris. In 2014 September, Microsoft declared a package to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition later being completed two months.

Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that does not have any specific goals for the player to perform, allowing players a great amount of independence in choosing how to learn the gameHowever, there can be an accomplishment system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the option to experience in third person mode. The core gameplay revolves around positioning and breaking blocks. The game world comprises rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a fixed grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move readily around the world, objects can only be located at permanent locations on the grid. Players can collect these material blocks and place them anywhere else, thus enabling various constructions. In the beginning of the game, the player is placed on the surface of any procedurally made and nearly infinite game world. The global world is divided into biomes ranging from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk across the terrain consisting of plains, mountains, forests, caves, and different water bodies. The in-game time system uses a full day and night routine, with one full cycle enduring 20 real-time minutes. Throughout the course of the game, players encounter various non-player people known as mobs, including pets, villagers and hostile animals. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for crafting and food materials, and spawn in the daytime. By contrast, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique creatures have been mentioned by reviewers, like the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks up on the player; and the Enderman, a creature with the ability to teleport and grab blocks.
