Minecraft is a sandbox video game originally created by Swedish game custom Markus "Notch" Persson, and later developed and publicized by Mojang. The creative and building areas of Minecraft allow players to build constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally generated world. Alternative activities in the game include exploration, learning resource gathering, crafting, and fight. Multiple gameplay modes are available, including survival mode where the player must acquire resources to make the global world and maintain health, a creative mode where players have unlimited resources to build with and the ability to fly, an adventure function where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator method where players can journey around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or damage any. The Personal computer version of the game is noted for its modding scene, where a dedicated community creates new gameplay technicians, items, and property for the game.Minecraft received praise from critics upon release, and triumphed in numerous accolades and accolades. As of 2016 June, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with more than 40 million unique players each full month, making it the best-selling PC game at this point and the next best-selling video game of all time, only behind the various releases of Tetris. In September 2014, Microsoft announced a offer to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition being completed 8 weeks later.
