Minecraft is a sandbox gaming formerly created by Swedish game creator Markus "Notch" Persson, and later developed and published by Mojang. The creative and building aspects of Minecraft permit players to create constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally produced world. Other activities in the game include exploration, reference gathering, crafting, and combat. Multiple gameplay settings are available, including survival mode where the player must acquire resources to develop the global world and keep maintaining health, a creative setting where players have unlimited resources to build with and the capability to fly, an adventure mode where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator mode where players can journey around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or demolish any. The PC version of the game is noted for its modding scene, in which a dedicated community creates new gameplay mechanics, items, and assets for the game.Minecraft received praise from critics after release, and earned numerous accolades and honors. As of June 2016, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with more than 40 million unique players every month, making it the best-selling PC game at this point and the second best-selling gaming ever, only behind the many releases of Tetris. In 2014 September, Microsoft announced a deal to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition later being completed two months.
Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that does not have any specific goals for the player to accomplish, allowing players a great amount of flexibility in choosing how to learn the gameHowever, there can be an success system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the choice to learn in third person setting. The core gameplay revolves around putting and breaking blocks. The overall game world is composed of rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a fixed grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move openly around the world, objects can only be put at preset locations on the grid. Players can gather these material place and blocks them in other places, thus allowing for various constructions.In the beginning of the game, the gamer is put on the top of the procedurally produced and practically infinite game world. The global world is split into biomes which range from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk across the terrain consisting of plains, mountains, forests, caves, and different water bodies. The in-game time system practices a day and night cycle, with one full cycle prolonged 20 real-time minutes. Throughout the course of the game, players come across various non-player character types known as mobs, including family pets, villagers and hostile animals. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for food and crafting materials, and spawn in the daytime. In comparison, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique animals have been observed by reviewers, including the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks up on the ball player; and the Enderman, a creature having the ability to teleport and grab blocks.
