As of June 2016, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with an increase of than 40 million unique players each full month, rendering it the best-selling PC game at this point and the second best-selling video game of most right time, only behind the many releases of Tetris. In September 2014, Microsoft declared a package to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition later being completed 8 weeks.
