Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the choice that can be played in third person function. The core gameplay revolves around breaking and putting blocks. The overall game world comprises rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a set grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move around the world freely, objects can only be positioned at preset locations on the grid. Throughout the course of the overall game, players encounter various non-player people known as mobs, including pets, villagers and hostile animals. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for food and crafting materials, and spawn in the day time.
